Family Promise of Larimer County Serves Children & Families Experiencing Homelessness

Family Promise of Larimer County is an affiliate of the National Family Promise Organization and serves families with children 17 years and younger. Families accepted into the program are warmly welcomed and immediately provided all of the resources HNS has to offer. Family Promise follows the best practices of Family Promise National and recognizes each family’s situation is unique. With the assistance of a case manager, each family assesses their immediate needs and prioritizes goals: safe child care, school enrollment for children, and sustainable income are typically high on the prioritized list.

Common barriers that keep families from competing in the tight housing market in Colorado are: poor credit history, past evictions, and lack of living-wage employment. These barriers are addressed with case manager, partnered with other agencies in the community. Children of school age are transported by the R2-J School District to keep them in their current school whenever possible.

Family Promise Is a Two Component Program: Day Center and Housing-focused Shelter Program.

Day Center:

Families enrolled in the program have access to the Day Center 7 days each week from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Family spaces provide showers, laundry, play area, computers, storage and heatable food areas. Adults meet regularly with their case manager and are connected to vital resources, including but not limited to House of Neighborly Service and other partners within Life Center. Accountability is essential for families to address their barriers to housing. The program requires limited spending, budgeting, debt reduction, repairing credit issues, and establishing savings.

Housing-focused Shelter Program:

Qualifying families in the 60 day shelter program work alongside a case manager on a weekly basis to address the barriers to employment, child resources and housing stability.
